If you are interested in writing to a newspaper or working as a journalist this is the workshop for you! In this workshop you will learn the basics of journalism. In addition to writing the actual articles, we will also look into planning an article, article structure, collecting data and editing. You will also get guidance and practice in interviewing people. We will examine the articles (that are written in the workshop) together in order to make the most of this learning process. Some of the articles written in this workshop will be published. |

Interest is enough; you don’t have to have any previous experience in journalism. We start from the very beginning but we will also improve the skills that you already have. Pack a pen and a note book to your bag. If you want to, you can also bring a laptop, a recorder or camera with you but these are not necessary. |

Even though writing articles is the main thing, journalist’s job includes a lot more than just that. If the students are interested, we will also talk about how to use pictures in articles etc. To get some background to the writing process we will ponder on the essence of media. During the Life-week the Journalism-workshop will visit an editing office of a weekly newspaper. Jouko Makkonen has worked as a journalist and a copy editor at a weekly Christian newspaper Uusi Tie. He also has experience in working as a Freelance-journalist. Jouko is a theology major in the University of Helsinki. |
